How many times do people give you a recommendation and you say ‘Oh, really? Cool. I’ll add it to the list!’ and then you go away and do not add it to any list anywhere?
Well, I present you with Add to List: the Sunday newsletter containing small things that brought joy, evoked an emotional reaction or became some short-lived stability for me in the past 7 days.
Obsession
Sugarcoated by Taura Lamb.
This track has great summer feels but also, if, like me, you are a people-pleaser-in-recovery then this one’s for you.
Confession
Today’s post is late due to a hangover.
I slept in until 2p.m. and missed my spin class because yesterday I hosted a ‘seed of life’ shower and enjoyed myself too much. I decided to go out and see the sun before typing this week’s post. I hope you’ll forgive me.
Shook
Female Friendship is magic.
We read about it, we talk about it, we see on our favourite T.V. shows (a.k.a. SATC). Yesterday I went full Carrie Bradshaw and threw a party for myself with all my female friends. Bringing your closest friends together doesn’t usually happen until you have a hen do, baby or a wedding. Why does society only create these moments for women? What about the singletons? What events do we get?
I celebrated harvesting five golden frozen eggs from my last two rounds of egg-freezing (better than a pair of Manolos). It was gorgeous to have so much female energy in one room. I had people there from so many chapters of my life and they all loved each other. Drinks were flowing. Love was everywhere. Laughter was non-stop. Honestly, women are SO funny. Female friendship really is the tits.
Book
By the River: Essays from the Water’s Edge by Multiple
In this Daunt Books collection, twelve writers share their reflect on rivers and how they shape us emotionally, socially, spiritually and creatively. It’s nice to read an essay collection because I can dip in and out of it (pun intended here).
Perfect for this weather too: sitting reading in a park means my attention span is reduced by people watching (and eavesdropping) and getting distracted by super cute dogs running past me.
Cook
Salad’s from Ottolenghi.
I put on a spread and made a couple of dishes from Ottolenghi’s Test Kitchen. The burnt aubergine, tomato and tahini mezze bowl was a real highlight.
Can’t Stop Scanning
Biscoff Viennetta stockists.
Sheena Patel’s book has a chapter titled ‘viennetta is the epitome of luxury’ and I couldn’t agree more. This combo has me salivating. I must try immediately.
I am on the hunt for where near me sells it ASAP.
Forward Planning
Italy bound!
I am heading to Italy on Wednesday for the whole summer. It’s a really special place to me and my family. The mountains hold so much space for magic. I find being there always helps me put everything into perspective and find peace. I plan to do lots of novel drafting and I am looking forward to life looking a bit different until September.
Updates incoming on this weekly newsletter about my slow pace and picturesque backdrops. I will understand if your envy makes you consider your (currently free) subscription but please don’t I am so grateful for your support of this newsletter.
See you in italia 🇮🇹
